What is in-store voice analytics and how does it work?

In-store voice analytics is a technology that records real conversations between staff and customers — at the till, counter or reception desk — transcribes them with AI and turns them into measurable insights: service quality, customer satisfaction, demand and lost-sales signals. Unlike call-centre analytics, it works where the phone is silent: on the shop floor.

How it works, step by step

What metrics you get

Conversation tone and emotions, customer satisfaction (CSAT), irritation dynamics through the dialogue, politeness and greeting rates, objection handling, upsell attempts, out-of-stock products mentioned by customers, equipment issues, escalations and conflicts. Weekly digest reports summarise the trends.

Who is it for

Any physical location where staff talk to customers: grocery and specialty retail, pharmacies, petrol stations, opticians, clinics and reception desks, service points. If conversations drive your sales, they are worth measuring.

What it is not

It is not surveillance of individuals: with a GDPR-compliant setup (visible signs, staff notification, anonymised transcripts, no stored audio) the goal is aggregate service quality, not tracking a specific person. See our detailed answer on the legality of recording customer conversations.
